GLOVERSVILLE — The Glove Theatre will hold auditions on Feb. 18 for women at least 18 years old and older who would like to perform readings for “The Vagina Monologues” to be presented on Feb. 29.
Readings are between two and five minutes. Auditions will take place on Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Glove, 42 N. Main St., and rehearsals will occur on Feb. 25 and Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.
The Glove is hosting the “The Vagina Monologues” at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 29, in conjunction with V-Day, a global nonprofit created with an aim to end all violence against women and girls.
The doors will open an hour before each show, and raffles with tickets will be available for purchase. Proceeds for the event will be donated to the Family Counseling Center’s Domestic Violence Program.
Tickets are $15 each and will be presold at Mohawk Harvest Co-op, 30 N. Main St., starting two weeks before the performance.
“The Vagina Monologues” is an episodic play originally written by Eve Ensler in 1996 and has since been revised. The episodes explore consensual and non-consensual sexual experiences, body image, reproduction, and more — all through the eyes of women of various ages, races, sexualities and other differences.
Since 1998, “The Vagina Monologues” have been performed all over the world and has raised more than $100 million for groups working to end violence against women and girls.
Because of the nature of the content in this performance, the Glove requires all attendees to be at least 18 years of age, or otherwise accompanied by an adult.
