Election board helps FFCS students register to vote

FONDA — Nearly 200 Fonda-Fultonville High School students are registered or pre-registered to vote after a visit from the Montgomery County Board of Elections to the school this week.

Election board Commissioners Terrance Smith and Terry Bieniek met with juniors in Sean Thompson’s U.S. History and Government course and seniors and Mary Brown’s Economics and Participation in Government courses on Monday. Students who are 18-years-old registered to vote, and students who were at least 16 preregistered to vote.

Smith and Bieniek showed students how to fill out the state’s voter registration form, and shared valuable information about primary elections, the general election and running for office. Students learned how important it is to fill out an election ballot properly so their votes fully count whether they go to a polling site or if they need to access an absentee ballot.

“This better prepares our students for voting in the upcoming presidential and local elections, and informs them for the mock election next fall,” Brown said.
