Johnstown Library February calendar

JOHNSTOWN — The following are the February events for the Johnstown Public Library, according to a news release.

One-off programs:

∫ From 10:30 a.m. to noon today will be sweets for a sweetie — description: Join in making hand dipped chocolates, a box to put them in and a needle felted heart. Seating is limited. Call the library to reserve a seat at (518) 762-8317.

Monday:

∫ From 3 to 5 p.m. will be afternoon art. The participants will create their own arts and crafts using library supplies.

∫ From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. will be adult creative coloring. This event is for adults to color together or on their own.

Wednesday:

∫ From 3 to 5 p.m. will be what a library card can do — listen to a brief presentation on the many ways you can use a library card. After the presentation will be hands on assistance with personal electronics troubleshooting related to library apps.

∫ From 6 to 7 p.m. will be the Science-fiction and Fantasy Book Club: The Golden Compass — discuss this month’s SF Book Club book.

∫ From 2 to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 16, will be a creative writing group — participate in writing exercises, share work, and give feedback to fellow writers.

Feb. 19:

∫ From 1 to 2 p.m. will be “Mouse Paint” for ages 5 and under with caregiver. There will be a reading of the story, “Mouse Paint,” about three white mice who find some jars of paint. Painting is an educational opportunity. Children not only learn about colors, shapes and patterns when painting but they are practicing their eye-hand coordination and using different colors while painting can help a child communicate their emotions or feelings. Children will have the opportunity to learn about colors while using unusual painting materials and mixing colors. Call or stop in the library to sign up; there is limited seating. The program is presented by Brightside Up.

∫ From 5 to 7 p.m. will be adult game night. Play a board or card game at the library. This is a casual, social event for adults. Come meet friends and play games together.

∫ From 6 to 7 p.m. Feb. 27, Cookbook Club: Breakfast for dinner — pick a dish from the cookbook, make it, and bring it to share. This event is for for both children and adults.

Feb. 28:

∫ From 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. will be Book club: educated — discuss this month’s Book Club book.

∫ From 1 to 2 p.m. will be big play for families with children newborn to age 5. Drop in for guided interactive play centered activities with one’s child. Meet other families. Learn how play encourages language skills, social and emotional development.

Repeating programs:

∫ From 4 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 6, and 20, will be youth dungeons and dragons.

∫ From 3 to 6 p.m. Feb. 10, and 24, Otaku time — an anime club for fans of anime, manga, or anything related. Watch shows together, talk about favorite series, and make new friends. The suggested ages is 12 to 18.

∫ From 4 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 12, and 26, community role playing games — this is a community oriented group for role playing games. This group is beginner friendly and accepting of all players.

∫ From 3 to 6 p.m. every Tuesday and from 2:30 to 5 p.m. every Friday will be multiplay — come play multiplayer video games, board games, and card games. The suggested ages is 12 to 18.
