Grant for children’s dental program set

AMSTERDAM — New Dimensions in Health Care has been awarded a $1,000 grant from Stewart’s Holiday Match program. Funds from the grant will be used to support the health center’s vital outreach dental program, 1-2-3 Smile!

Since its inception 15 years ago, the 1-2-3 Smile! program has seen a lot of success, according to a news release. The program’s original focus was on early oral hygiene education for children up to three years of age and their parents. However, the program has grown over the years to include oral care for infants before and after teeth emerge; foods, beverages, and behaviors that can lead to tooth decay; appropriate daily dental self-care techniques; and the importance of early and ongoing professional dental care. In 2019, approximately 730 area children experienced 1-2-3 Smile!

Funding from Stewart’s Holiday Match will be used to support expenses for the 1-2-3 Smile! program, including supplies, dental care kits, and staff time executing the program.
