JOHNSTOWN — The city will hold a three-day drop-off, municipal cleanup program in conjunction with the Fulton County Department of Solid Waste from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 15 and Oct. 16 and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 17, according to a news release.
The refuse containers will be available to city residents or property owners at the Prindle Avenue Barn, behind the Shirley J. Luck Senior Center. The businesses, contractors and commercial haulers are not allowed to utilize this program.
There will be no charge to individuals. Only cars, vans and pickup trucks will be allowed; dump trucks are prohibited. The quantities will be limited to the equivalent of two pickup truckloads per individual, according to city officials.
The residents can bring old furniture, appliances, garage and attic cleanup projects, and do-it-yourself home improvement project materials such as siding, shingles, lumber and miscellaneous junk. A maximum of four tires per household will be accepted and they must be off the rim.
Old appliances will be placed separately from garbage, as old stoves, refrigerators, freezers and other bulky metal items will be recycled. The residents are asked to remove the doors from refrigerators and freezers for safety purposes and make sure all food is removed. The tires must also be placed separately from garbage, for recycling purposes. The electronics will also be recycled at this event.
The items that are not acceptable for this program are as follows: Vehicle batteries, paint, motor oil, curbside recyclables or regular weekly trash. The items not accepted at the cleanup program have other outlets and disposal options.
