JOHNSTOWN – The Fulton County Center for Regional Growth’s board got three new members Monday: Perth Supervisor Greg Fagan, Gloversville 5th Ward Supervisor Michael Ponticello and David Jankowski.
The Fulton County Board of Supervisors approved adding the three new members to the board Monday. The three will serve staggered terms, with Fagan serving the three-year term, Jankowski a two-year term and Ponticello a one-year term. All future terms will be for three years.
Ponticello said this morning he is looking to get caught up with the other members on the CRG board, so he can help with economic development efforts in the county.
“As a new board member, I’m going to try and absorb as much information as I can in as short a time as possible so I can be a productive member of the board,” he said. “I want to become familiar with their policies and procedures like any good board member would want to.
“As a member of the Fulton County Board of Supervisors and the CRG, I would like to see they fulfill their contract with the county in their mission to create economic development … [And] I want there to be transparency between them and the Board of Supervisors.”
The CRG and Fulton County Board of Supervisors entered into an agreement in December in which the county would provide the agency $75,000 and have the option to place county officials on the board.
Financial problems caused the CRG in October to announce it was dissolving the Fulton County Economic Development Corp. and the Crossroads Incubator Corp. The CRG is the parent company of both groups.
On Jan. 30, Mike Reese shared the CRG’s marketing plan with the Board of Supervisors. It included: $20,000 to the marketing professionals at Shannon-Rose Design; $12,000 for website/Internet promotion; $12,000 for business site marketing; $11,000 for business recruitment; $10,000 for community development marketing; and $10,000 for grant initiatives.
Also in the board’s marketing plan, Reese stressed the board would be looking to make stronger efforts in website promotion, including using more social media.
