Five charged in drug raid

AMSTERDAM – City police said officers executed four arrest and search warrants Wednesday, apprehending five individuals on charges of drug possession and sale.

According to a news release from Det. Kurt Conroy, city police, in conjunction with the state police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department and SWAT, searched various locations in the city after a four-month investigation.

The warrants were executed on: 217 Brookside Ave., first floor; 9 Bayard St., second floor; 100 Virginia Lane, Apartment E-5; and 46 Storrie St., first floor.

Police said those arrested in Wednesday’s operations were:

  • Edwin Feliciano, 47, of 217 Brookside Ave., first floor, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.
  • Nereida Padilla, 52, of 217 Brookside Ave., first floor, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.
  • Orestes Andino, 43, of 9 Bayard St., second floor, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.
  • Jose Carrero, 24, of 100 Virginia Lane, Apartment E-5, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
  • James Passaniti, 27, of 46 Storrie St., first floor, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal possession of marijuana.

Police said in the raid, 1 1/2 pounds of marijuana, half an ounce of cocaine and about $8,700 in cash were found. A starter pistol and three long guns also were found, police said.
