JOHNSTOWN – A man who burglarized a Gloversville home last fall pleaded guilty Thursday in Fulton County Court and will be sentenced to up to three years in state prison.
Joshua S. Hodgson, 31, of 52 S. Judson St., pleaded guilty before Judge Polly A. Hoye to one count of third-degree attempted burglary. He is slated to receive 1 1/2 to three years in state prison when he is sentenced April 30 as part of a plea arrangement. He will be sentenced as a second felony offender.
Hodgson was arrested along with a co-defendant Nov. 20 by Gloversville police after an investigation revealed they burglarized a home on Fifth Street. Hodgson was initially charged with second-degree burglary and petit larceny. Police said the men entered the residence through an unlocked front door and removed a safe, two laptops, two Playstation 3 consoles and several games for the systems.
In other cases Thursday:
– Bruce Jessop, 22, of 8 William St., Gloversville, was sentenced by Hoye to six months in Fulton County jail and five years probation. Sentencing was part of a plea arrangement and was based on his Feb. 7 guilty plea to one count of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
He was charged last October along with two other co-defendants after an investigation into a fraudulent check-cashing scheme in the city and surrounding area. Gloversville police said Jessop and the co-defendants created fraudulent payroll checks and cashed them at local establishments. In the city alone, police said, officers identified about 15 checks used in the scam, resulting in the theft of more than $8,000 from local establishments.
A co-defendant in the case, Gloria A. Dillenbeck, 42, of 2813 Route 10, Caroga Lake, also pleaded guilty before Hoye to second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument. Sentencing was adjourned until a later date, but she is expected to receive 30 days in jail and five years probation as part of a plea arrangement.
Dillenbeck was charged Oct. 9 in Gloversville.
– Joseph D. DeCristofaro, no age or address available, was sentenced by Judge Richard C. Giardino to one to three years in state prison. He pleaded guilty Nov. 26 to one count of third-degree burglary. He was arrested July 5 by Johnstown police. Details of his case were unavailable.
