MAYFIELD – The Mayfield Central School District Board of Education unanimously approved a $16.7 million budget for 2013-14 earlier this week.
The budget is up 1 percent from the current budget and restores programs.
The district says it has not yet decided on the tax levy in the new budget.
The budget contains no staff decreases and reinstates two part-time elementary school art and music positions.
The budget includes an additional section of prekindergarten and the return of junior varsity sports.
Superintendent Paul Williamsen said the tax levy will be established in two or three weeks.
He said the school board wants to determine the district’s fund balance before setting the levy.
In the 2012-13 budget process, the tax levy was roughly $6.7 million, representing a 2.4 percent, or $162,000, increase from the previous year.
According to District Treasurer Brenda Leitt, the new levy is expected to either stay the same or increase slightly.
The state-imposed tax cap for the district is 4.2 percent.
Leitt said it appears the district will stay under the tax cap.
Williamsen said the state aid increase for his district, from $6.8 million in 2012-13 to $7 million in 2013-14, was higher than expected.
Williamsen said the aid allowed the district to restore some of the programs previously cut and include the additional section of prekindergarten.
Voters will decide on the annual budget and school board elections on May 21.
Voters will be asked to select one Board of Education member to serve a five-year term caused by the expiration of term for Teresia Davis.
Petitions for nominating a member to the Board of Education are available in the business office and are due back by April 22.
Meanwhile, Williamsen will be retiring in June after five years with the district.
