Officials: More businesses interested in local area

JOHNSTOWN – Fulton County Center for Regional Growth officials are noticing more business interest in the area, and are taking advantage of social media to help capture it.

The CRG is this year trying to greatly improve marketing and get away from the real estate aspect of its past work, which has typically been done by one of its corporations – the Crossroads Incubator Corp.

“All of the CIC’s assets are for sale,” CRG board of directors Chairman Dustin Swanger told his group last week at the Johnstown Professional Office Complex.

Meanwhile, Swanger said the county is experiencing a renewed interest by businesses.

“I think we’re starting to see more economic development taking place, more company expansions and interest,” he said. “I’m hearing from a number of interests.”

Swanger said Fulton County may be pulling out of a protracted “slow period” in economic development. He also noted nationally, Wall Street payouts and the Stock Market are up.

“I think there’s some positive signs for the future,” he stated.

CRG President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Reese said Saratoga Springs-based Shannon-Rose Design is helping the CRG plunge “full speed ahead” with many of the new marketing efforts. He said a blog on local food processing businesses will be posted soon on the agency website – www.fccrg.org. In the coming week, Reese said the CRG is slated to have its own Facebook page.

Reese said the CRG will also meet March 22 to set up a new LinkedIn page. The company will create individual and CRG profiles on LinkedIn to develop relationships with site selectors, regional developers and commercial realtors. Reese will interact with specialized groups associated with site selectors, regional developers and commercial realtors through the site.

In addition, Reese told his board he plans to meet soon with real estate managers around the country to further improve the new marketing effort.
