GLOVERSVILLE – Wayne D. Schermerhorn says he no longer is considering a run for mayor this year because of personal obligations.
Schermerhorn previously expressed his interest in running to the city Republican Committee. Mayor Dayton King says he is seeking re-election in November, and city 5th Ward Supervisor Michael A. Ponticello expressed interest in running for mayor.
According to the news release from Schermerhorn, his decision was not based on whether he could do the job of mayor. He said he wants to have time for his family, friends, organizations and hobbies.
“I have a lot of freedom right now,” Schermerhorn said. “I just retired from doing a [state Department of Environmental Conservation] job that I was doing for a couple of years, and when it came to run this year, I decided I didn’t want to be tied down. When I really looked at it, I would lose all of my time for four years.”
