JOHNSTOWN – The Johnstown Police Benevolent Association, Razor Hair Salon and Partners’ Pub put their heads together for charity on Saturday.
About 50 people signed up to have their heads shaved in order to secure donations in support of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which directs money to childhood cancer research.
William Rosas of St. Johnsville, an employee of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, said he and his family attended the fundraiser partly because of an event that scared them into taking action.
Rosas said his 12-year-old son, Bryan, had blood tests a year ago that led doctors to suspect he had developed leukemia. Fortunately, further tests came back negative.
Rosas said his friends at Rock City Trailers, a Little Falls manufacturer of custom trailers, promised to double the amount of his contribution if Rosas promised to shave the moustache he’d had since he was 16.
Organizers of the event hoped to raise several thousand dollars for the foundation at Saturday’s event.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation has raised more than $101 million for cancer research since 2005, according to a news release.
