Open house slated at Johnson Hall

JOHNSTOWN – Johnson Hall State Historic Site will host an open house Friday from 2 to 5 p.m.

The event will highlight the ongoing restoration of Sir William Johnson’s bedchamber. Wade Wells, the manager of the historic site, will discuss the plans for the restoration.

Recent research has led to a revised analysis of the woodwork, the results of which will provide a more accurate replication of the original paint color, Wells said in a news release.

The project also involves research and repairs to the historic plaster, and period textiles for the bed and windows are being researched, along with reproduction wallpaper reflecting the 18th century tastes.

Friday’s event will be free and open to all. For more information, call the site at 762-8712.
