Man, 51, killed in ATV accident

EPHRATAH – A Rockwood all-terrain vehicle operator was killed in an accident at 11 p.m. Sunday north of his home.

Fulton County sheriff’s deputies said Patrick J. Carberry, 51, of 4672 Route 29, was heading east on an ATV trail behind his home and tried to go southeast up a small hill and onto an adjacent ATV trail. Deputies said the ATV rolled back down the hill and landed on its side, with the driver pinned under the ATV.

The accident is believed to have occurred late Sunday night, deputies said, but it wasn’t discovered until 5:46 p.m. Monday.

Deputies said Carberry suffered internal injuries and was taken to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, where he was pronounced dead.

Responding were the Johnstown Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Ambulance Service of Fulton County and the Rockwood-Garoga-Lassellsville Volunteer Fire Department.
