Galway school fills superintendent post

GALWAY – The Galway Central School Board of Education appointed Shannon C. Shine as superintendent of schools at a special meeting July 25.

Shine will start in his role as superintendent Aug. 28.

The board conducted a thorough search for a new superintendent over the past year, according to a news release. William F. Scott has been serving as the interim superintendent since last July.

“I am excited to be able to serve the students, parents and community members in Galway,” Shine said in the release. “A strong work and service ethic are important to me and I try my best on a daily basis to have my professional conduct reflect these values. I look forward to continuing the academic improvements that are under way at the district.”

“The Board of Education is very pleased that Mr. Shine accepted our offer to be the next Superintendent for the Galway Central School District. After numerous interviews with the Board of Education, community groups and our administrator team, it was clear that he has the expertise, work ethic and character necessary to lead the District,” said Board of Education President Tom Rumsey.

Since 2011, Shine has served as principal at the Ichabod Crane Primary and Elementary schools in Valatie.

Prior to that, he served as summer school principal at the Ichabod Crane High School from May to August 2009 and again in 2011. From 2007-11, he was the assistant principal at the Ichabod Middle School.
