Man arrested over sign diverting traffic in city

GLOVERSVILLE – A city resident is accused of placing a false traffic diversion on the access road to Overlook Ridge apartment complex, city police said.

Dominic A. Anadio, 66, of 42 Northern Terrace, was arrested by city police Monday and charged with disorderly conduct, a violation.

Police said on June 23, officers received a complaint of a construction vehicle obstructing the traffic on Santos Lane, which is the access road to the Overlook Ridge complex.

However, police said when officers responded, they did not observe any construction vehicles but did observe a handmade wooden sign directing traffic away from the exit to Northern Terrace.

Authorities said the sign was erected and placed in the roadway by Anadio, who was concerned with traffic flow issues at the complex.

Police said the sign caused a hazard to vehicular traffic by creating an unsafe obstacle for drivers, and Anadio did not have authorization from Overlook Ridge or the city to place such a sign in the roadway.

Capt. John Sira said residents in the area of the controversial housing complex have expressed concerns about the traffic, and this was a case of a person taking the issue into his own hands.

An arrest warrant was issued for Anadio, and he surrendered himself to police Monday.

He was arraigned by Judge Traci DiMezza and will reappear in City Court a later date.
