Driver gets dozens of tickets, charges

GLOVERSVILLE – A local man was arrested Thursday on more than 30 charges after failing to evade officers who tried to stop him for speeding, according to a report from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.

Joel R. Caputo Sr., 45, of 14 William St., failed to comply when deputies tried to pull him over for speeding on Route 29A in the town of Johnstown, according to the report.

Deputies said he led them on a chase along various streets until he stopped on Poole Avenue in the city at 10:49 p.m.

Caputo was given 15 traffic tickets and charged with two penal law violations in the town of Johnstown, and 18 traffic tickets and two penal law violations in the city.

He received six misdemeanor charges, with the most serious of the charges being unlawfully fleeing from a police officer with a motor vehicle, reckless driving and second-degree reckless endangerment, according to the report.

He was arraigned in Johnstown Town Court and brought to the Fulton County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.

Caputo will be arraigned City Court on the additional charges at a later date.
