GLOVERSVILLE – City police found a Schenectady man with several bundles of heroin and more than $3,000 in cash after chasing him in his vehicle and on foot Saturday.
Kevin Fitch, also known as “Kyle” and “Kraze,” 24, of Belmont Avenue in Schenectady, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
At approximately 5 a.m. Saturday, police said, an officer stopped Fitch’s vehicle on Grove Street after watching him drive erratically. As the officer approached the vehicle on foot, police said, Fitch accelerated and fled.
Authorities said the officer followed the vehicle south on Grove Street until it stopped in the front yard of 83 Third Ave., where Fitch and two passengers fled on foot.
While Fitch was fleeing through a back yard, the officer saw him drop items before trying to scale a fence, police said.
After a brief foot pursuit and struggle, police apprehended Fitch. He was taken into custody, and the items he dropped were retrieved.
Police said the items consisted of several bundles of heroin. Police also found marijuana and more than $3,000 in cash.
Police said Fitch was intoxicated and there was a warrant for his arrest in Schenectady.
He was arraigned in City Court and sent to the Fulton County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.
More charges are pending against Fitch as well as the male and female passengers who fled the vehicle and got away, police said.
Police are still looking for the male and female passengers.
“We are definitely seeing an increase in the amount of heroin out there,” Police Chief Donald VanDeusen said. “It seems to be cheaper and obviously more affordable for people than the crack cocaine and cocaine. We will continue to do the same we do with any other drugs by actively investigating any complaints we have and actively try to identify and arrest as many dealers as we can.”
