GLOVERSVILLE – City school district Superintendent Michael Vanyo’s contract has been extended by the Board of Education for an additional year.
His contract with the district now goes through June 30, 2017, after the board approved the extension Aug. 26.
“I am looking forward to continuing to work with the board and everyone in the district to achieve our goal of improving the graduation rate and ensuring every Gloversville student achieves success,” Vanyo said in a statement.
Board of Education President Richard Carlson praised the work Vanyo has done since he came to the district last year.
“Since his arrival last September, Mike has worked very hard to initiate the changes needed to improve the district’s graduation rate and overall academic achievement,” Carlson said in a statement. “While there’s still much to accomplish on the road ahead the board can see the progress we have made under his leadership. We are headed in the right direction and we look forward to working together with Mike and all our staff over the coming years to help our district realize its full potential.”
Other details of Vanyo’s contract, including his freeze in salary, remain unchanged for the new, extended term of the contract, officials said.
In June 2012, the Board of Education approved Vanyo’s four-year contract in Gloversville, which will pay him $159,000 per year for the first three years.
Vanyo also can sell back up to three unused vacation days at $662.50 per day, adding $1,987 to his base salary, according to the agreement.
Since coming to the district last year, Vanyo has aimed to improve the district’s graduation rate.
