Johnstown district OKs appointments

JOHNSTOWN – The Greater Johnstown School District Board of Education conducted a special meeting Thursday at Johnstown High School to make staffing changes, both in and outside of the classroom.

“There are a number of personnel items to address this evening,” said board President Paul VanDenburgh.

All the personnel actions followed recommendations made by Superintendent Robert DeLilli.

The board accepted the resignation of Glebe Street Elementary School sixth-grade teacher Karen Jones, effective at the end of the day Dec. 31.

District officials said Jones resigned for “personal” reasons.

The board accepted the resignation of boys’ swimming and diving Head Coach Joseph Hart, effective retroactively to last Monday. Board members also made several term appointments of coaching staff, including having Julianna Popp take over as head coach for the rest of the school year at a stipend of $3,141. She previously served as first assistant to Hart.

Other term appointments made by the board of winter coaches for the 2013-14 school year were: Mike Hill, boys’ basketball fourth assistant coach – $2,285 stipend; Mary Insognia, girls’ basketball third assistant coach – $2,399 stipend; Tammy Albers, boys’ swimming and diving first assistant – $1,317 stipend.

Ryan Baldock was granted a probationary appointment as a physical education teacher, at a prorated salary of $47,923 annually. The position is effective Dec. 9, 2013 through Dec. 8, 2015.

The board approved the permanent appointment of Melissa TenEyck as a school monitor in the cafeteria, effective Nov. 18. Probationary appointments of school monitors in the cafeteria were also granted to JoAnn Warner and Jennifer Dennett. Both will be paid $8.86 per hour for 10 months per year. Warner’s appointment was effective retroactive to Sept. 27, and Dennett’s appointment was effective retroactive to Oct. 10.

Tammie David was approved as a substitute food service helper, effective retroactive from Sept. 5 and running until June 30. Her pay rate was not specified by the board.

Two term appointments of co-curricular staff were also made by the board for the 2013-14 school year. They were: Jennifer Casey, marching band first assistant at a $1,713 stipend; and Travis Munson, Winterguard assistant, unpaid.
