CHARLTON – An Amsterdam man was killed Wednesday after a two-vehicle crash on Route 67 in Saratoga County, according to state police.
Troopers said Robert J. Mongin, 63, was killed when his 1997 Porsche convertible was struck by a 2015 Chrysler driven by Lele Mamedova, 32, of Broadalbin.
Troopers said that at approximately 5:44 p.m., Mamedova was driving north on West Line Road when she approached the intersection with Route 67 and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection. Her vehicle struck Mongin’s vehicle, which was traveling west on Route 67.
After being struck, the convertible continued west and off the road. It overturned and came to rest on its roof.
Mongin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Saratoga County coroner. Troopers said he was wearing a seat belt.
Mamedova was not injured in the crash and was traveling with two children, who were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam as a precaution. All occupants of her vehicle were properly restrained, police said.
The crash is still under investigation by members of the uniform, BCI and collision reconstruction unit of the state police. No charges were filed. Assistance at the scene was provided by the Charlton Police Department and the West Galway Fire Department.
