Former BOCES aide gets prison term for sexual contact with student

GLOVERSVILLE – A former Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES substitute aide was sentenced today to three years in state prison for having sexual contact with a 14-year-old female student in 2009.

Kimberly Gittens, 41, of 7 Monroe St., also was sentenced in Fulton County Court to seven years of post-release supervision and fees of $1,425 by County Court Judge Polly A. Hoye.

The term was in accordance with a sentencing agreement that was reached between the prosecution and defense in the case.

Gittens will also have to register as a sex offender upon her release.

Gittens’ prison time will be credited for time served.

A Fulton County jury found Gittens guilty of second-degree criminal sexual act in July. She faced up to seven years in state prison and 10 years of post-release supervision.

The Leader-Herald will have more on this story in Friday’s print and web editions.
