GLOVERSVILLE – As the Miss Fulton County Scholarship Pageant enters its 48th year, it will be bringing a new crown to the stage in 2017.
The organization’s board of directors has announced that the 2017 pageant will include the crowning of Miss Montgomery County.
In the past, the Miss Fulton County pageant was only open to young women who lived in Fulton County. While previous organizations have crowned a Miss Montgomery County, the competition has not been run for several years.
The winners of both the Miss Fulton and Miss Montgomery County titles will go on to compete in the Miss New York Pageant. Should either woman win that title, they go on to compete for the title of Miss America.
For it’s return this year, the Miss Fulton County Board is seeking former Miss Montgomery County titleholders to be recognized during the event. The board is asking former winner, or their family and friends, to contact them through the Miss Fulton County Facebook page.
Both pageants are open to unmarried women ages 17 to 24.
Both competitions include five sections: a talent component, a 10 minute long interview before a panel of judges, fitness component, on stage interview and evening wear.
The board will also introduce the Miss Montgomery County Outstanding Teen the line up this year. This will be in addition to the current Miss Fulton County Outstanding Teen Competition.
According to the news release, the deadline to sign up Nov. 30.
Winners are awarded scholarship money to further their education, with current winner Lexi Swatt of Johnstown was awarded a $4,000 scholarship with her win.
Contests also compete for other scholarship prizes as well including the Community Spirit Award, which was winner Heather Graves get $500 this year and 2016 First Runnerup Morgan Romano was awarded a $5,000 scholarship to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in either New York or Los Angeles for winning the talent award.
