Two arrested by state police, one for assault, one for sharing child porn

GLOVERSVILLE — A Gloversville man was arrested by New York State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for allegedly possessing and distributing images of underage girls.

Mark Demers, 44, of Gloversville was arrested at his place of employment Thursday. According to a news release, on Thursday, a search warrant was served by the New York state Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce and the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Demers’ residence in Gloversville. 

According to the release, Demers is suspected of possessing and distributing images of underage females to undercover investigators earlier this month. Several electronic devices were seized and searched by the State Police Computer Crimes Unit, who found images of minors in sexual situations, police said. 

No address was given for Demers.

Demers was remanded to Fulton County Jail where he was released from jail on a pre-trial release program. He is scheduled to appear in City Court on Monday at 9 a.m.

∫ A Mayfield man was arrested by New York State Police March 18 and charged with allegedly causing injury to a woman and threatening to shoot her.

Troopers said a woman walked into the Mayfield barracks March 17 and was bleeding from the mouth and hands. She had been driven to the barracks by a friend.

Troopers said investigating troopers and the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined that Derek M. May, 42, of Mayfield, had struck her in the face with his hand, in the mouth with a beer bottle, grabbed her by the throat, holding her against a beam in the house. He also allegedly threatened to shoot her.

An arrest warrant was obtained for May who surrendered himself to the state police the following morning.  He was arraigned in the town of Mayfield and released on $2,500 unsecured bail.
