AMSTERDAM — Sandra Weber, author of “The Woman Suffrage Statue”, will be the speaker at the Thursday dinner meeting of the Amsterdam-Gloversville-Johnstown branch of the American Association of University Women on Thursday. She will tell the story through narration, photographs and songs, according to a news release. Musical accompaniment will be provided by David Hodges.
“The Woman Suffrage Statue” is a history of Adelaide Johnson’s portrait monument to Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony which is now at the rotunda of the United States Capitol.
The meeting will be held at the Raindancer Restaurant, Route 30, Amsterdam with dinner at 6 p.m., followed by the presentation by Weber at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
Dinner choices for the AAUW dinner meeting include chicken breast stuffed with apple, cranberry and walnut for $25; herb-crusted salmon for $28.75; or eggplant parmesan (vegetarian) for $21.25. Dinners include salad, rice pilaf, ginger carrots, tea, coffee and apple crisp for dessert.

On Friday at 2 p.m., Weber and Hodges will also provide a program on the same subject to fourth-grade students at Warren Street School in Johnstown as part of their local history curriculum. Both the Thursday dinner presentation and Friday program for students have been funded by a New York state AAUW program grant.
AAUW is open to anyone holding an associate or equivalent (ie. RN), a baccalaureate or a higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
A special “Shape the Future Membership” discount rate of $50.50 for a year’s dues will be offered to those who join Thursday.
