WELLS — A Johnstown man drowned while tubing in the Sacandaga River Monday afternoon.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department issued a news release reporting the drowning of 64-year-old Corlous T. Fisher, no street address available.
Deputies said Fisher was tubing on the Sacandaga River with his family at 2:50 p.m. when he “lost contact” with his tube and disappeared under the water. The report said he and his family were visiting the Sacandaga Campground day use area.
A search was initiated by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, state forest rangers, Wells Volunteer Fire Department, and personnel from the Ambulance Service of Fulton County.
Fisher’s body was located in the Sacandaga River in the town of Hope and picked up by sheriff’s officers and forest rangers by air boat.
The release said Fisher was not wearing a life vest.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Hamilton County Coroner John Anderson.
