Top financial admin retires

JOHNSTOWN — Retirement of the Greater Johnstown School District’s top financial administrator topped personnel items reviewed by the Board of Education Thursday night at Johnstown High School.

The board accepted the recommendation of Superintendent Patricia Kilburn to approve the resignation of School Business Manager Alice Sise, who is retiring. No reason for the retirement was given. Sise wasn’t present at the meeting.

Board member Evamarie Mraz praised Sise for her work and dedication to the business office.

“She has been a tremendous asset to this district,” Mraz said. “They’re going to be very, very big shoes to fill.”

The resolution indicated that Sise’s resignation, effective Dec. 31, was accepted with “much regret.”

In other personnel items, the board approved the resignation of Colleen Froschauer, physical education teacher, effective Aug. 31. Her resignation as advisor to the International Club for the 2017-18 school year was also accepted.

Other 2017-18 school year resignations accepted by the board were: Kristy Lynch, International Club assistant; and Terry Denney as a girls soccer assistant.

The board created a special education teacher position.

Board members also created numerous teaching assistant positions, filling them with these personnel: Censina Cannon, Darlene Smith, Deborah Sedal, Joseph Casale, Dawnna Ayres, Janet Lincourt, Jolene Christman, Deborah Orsell, Jennifer Malatino, Dorothy Guzielek, Danielle Massey, Patricia Lago, Arlene Spencer, Jennifer Dennett, Trisha Williams, Kimberly Brownell, Sharon Walker, Rebecca Cushing.

Craig Talarico was appointed a long-term substitute English teacher at $110.40 per day, anticipated from Sept. 5 through Oct. 13.

The board appointed Kristy Lynch as multiple disciplines department coordinator at $2,150 for the coming school year.

A term appointment was granted to part-time technology teacher Robert Hayes at a prorated salary of $59,367. Another term appointment was granted to part-time art teacher Erin Kelly at a prorated salary of $47,579. Both appointments are effective Sept. 1 and run through June 30.
