Assemblyman Angelo
Santabarbara joined students
at Barkley Elementary School in Amsterdam on Friday morning to
Breakfast Week. National School Breakfast Week is a weeklong
celebration of the School
Breakfast Program. Local schools celebrate with decorations,
special menus, events and
celebrations with the goal of
increasing participation and awareness of the benefits of
the school breakfast program.
Nationwide, the School Breakfast Program provides millions of
children a nutritious morning meal each school day. School breakfast is critical to creating a healthy learning environment by providing children a significant portion of the nutrition they need to be ready to learn. “Kids who start off the day with a healthy breakfast perform better academically, attend school more often, and have fewer
behavioral reports,” said
Santabarbara in a news release. “The School Breakfast Program gives kids a healthy option
for breakfast every day and is
essential to keeping students healthy and focused at school,” Assemblyman Santabarbara said. “By reducing food insecurity we can contribute to better outcomes both in school and at home.”
