JOHNSTOWN — This year’s Johnson Jog 5K Run/Walk scheduled for May 19 will be the middle event in the city’s 5K “Triple Crown” running series.
Organizer Ron Robinson outlined the Johnson Jog for the Common Council Monday at City Hall.
The event will start at 9 a.m. May 19 at the Johnson Hall State Historic Site, 139 Hall Ave.
Robinson said Johnson Jog will this year be part of the 5K “Triple Crown” of local run/walk events. It will be in between the Glove Cities Rotary “Run for the Roses” 5K on May 5 starting at Partner’s Pub, and the Lexington 5K on June 9 starting from Lexington Center, 465 N. Perry St.
“The proceeds from all three races will benefit the community,” Robinson said.
Johnson Jog will again feature historical costumed characters around the event route. Race day registration will be from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Parking will be at Johnstown High School, with shuttle van service available to and from the site. The first 100 entries will receive T-shirts. The cost is $20 pre-registered, and $25 day of the race. Awards will be given to first overall male and female participants, and the top three male and female participants in 14 age groups.
“In the past, the city departments have been instrumental,” Robinson said. “They’ve been a great help.”
Robinson noted the Johnstown Police Department usually provides a “lead car” around the course, with officers stationed at key locations. He said Johnson Jog was asking for such assistance again. He said the race will also feature volunteers stationed at 20 other route intersections, as well.
The Johnstown Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps will follow participants, he said.
“We also like to ask the [city] Department of Public Works to help us again,” Robinson said. “Everyone in city government has been extremely supportive of this venture.”
The public can register online for the Johnson Jog alone, or any Triple Crown event at: www.zippyreg.com.
