MAYFIELD — The town of Mayfield highway superintendent was arrested by state police Wednesday for allegedly using town employees, equipment and materials to deliver stone to his personal home.
Melvin Dopp, 54, of Mayfield, was charged with official misconduct and theft of services.
According to a New York State Police news release, Mayfield town Supervisor Richard Argotsinger approached the state police about the possible theft of stone and use of town employees and equipment on April 2.
Police said the investigation revealed that in the summer of 2017, Dopp allegedly used town of Mayfield employees and equipment to load and haul about 10 tons of town stone from the town property and had it delivered to his personal driveway.
This was completed while the employees were working for the town during business hours.
Dopp was arrested and released with an appearance ticket that is returnable on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the town of Mayfield Court.
Argotsinger was not available for comment.
