JOHNSTOWN — The Triple Crown 5k series will return to the Glove Cities this spring with a new race added to this year’s lineup.
The organizers of the 5K Triple Crown have announced that they are joining forces with the Johnson Jog in 2018 for the fourth annual event and for the first time all three races will be held in historic Johnstown.
“The collaboration between these three 5K traditions in our community will elevate the caliber of the racing season for area runners,” said Mark Will, president of the Glove Cities Rotary Club in a news release. “Participants will have a chance to enter three of their favorite races as a series, with the added bonus of possibly winning money and/or prizes in their quest for the ‘Triple Crown’ title.”
The 5K races will be held on the three days that coincide with the Triple Crown horse races resulting in one male and female grand champion. Cash prizes and medals and other prize drawings for those who enter the Triple Crown will be awarded. Runners may also choose to enter individual races.
The first race, sponsored by the Glove Cities Rotary Club is the “Run for the Roses” 5K and will be held on May 5.
The second leg of the Triple Crown will be the Johnson Jog that will be held on May 19, and the final leg of the event will be the Lexington 5k to be held on June 9.
All Triple Crown entrants are automatically entered to win raffle prizes, including gift certificates, running gear, clothing and more. Runners will also receive a free Triple Crown T-shirt, as well as T- shirt and goody bag for each of the three races.
Proceeds from the races go to benefit the Glove Cities Rotary community service projects, Johnson Hall historic site and Lexington Family Services. Registration information, and more details, can be found by visiting the Facebook page at 5ktriplecrown.
