Alleged attempt to abduct children

GLOVERSVILLE — City police are seeking information from the public in connection with the report of an attempted abduction.

Officers say three juveniles were reportedly approached at the intersection of North Clark Drive and Summer Street by an adult male in a black mini van or SUV asking for directions to Gloversville High School on Monday around 6 p.m.

After one of the minors gave the man directions, he said that he had already forgotten them and asked the children to get in his vehicle to show him the way, a police press release stated.

The youths refused and the man then allegedly made a threat towards the kids. The juveniles ran away and the vehicle drove towards West Fulton Street.

The kids told police they observed the vehicle take a right hand turn, continuing west onto West Fulton Street.

Police say patrol units have been active around city schools since the time of the report in an attempt to locate the suspect’s vehicle. The incident was not formally reported to police until the following afternoon, on Tuesday.

The suspect was described as a white male, with glasses, wearing a blue plaid shirt, in his 40s or 50s, with a gray beard.

Anyone that has observed any suspicious activity connected to this report is asked to contact the Gloversville Police Department at (518) 773-4506 with any information.
