Fulton County Office for Aging/Youth events slated

JOHNSTOWN — The Fulton County Office for Aging/Youth has released some dates for upcoming events planned for 2019.

The Board of Supervisors’ Human Services Committee recently granted permission to the county agency to serve light refreshments to staff and those attending meetings and events for the year.

“All the funds are in the budget already,” OFA/Youth Director Andrea Fettinger told the committee.

Aging events listed were: monthly support group meetings, periodic OFA Advisory Council meetings, NYConnects community events — to be announced, OFA Senior Picnic — Aug. 1, and Hats Off to Caregivers event —November.

Youth events listed were: “Lead By Example” Youth Award reception/event — May, and periodic Youth Bureau Advisory Board meetings.

In other business, Fettinger told the committee she is discarding certain items from the OFA inventory. She said the agency office at 19 N. William St. is getting cramped.

“These items are like 25 years old,” she said.

They include more than 15 conference room chairs, some broken and some stained; one large broken storage cabinet being used at the Johnstown Senior Center, two small desks at the OFA, and one broken steam table currently located at the Perth Town Hall.

The committee approved a proposed resolution to increase the hours of a part-time aging services specialist from 17 to 19.5 hours, beginning Feb. 8. Fettinger said a typist is resigning on that day, and needs the extra hours to fill in for the position, which also serves as a front office receptionist.

“It takes awhile to hire somebody,” she said.
