FONDA — Montgomery County voters will decide several primaries Tuesday, including an Independence Party primary for mayor of Amsterdam.
Voters will take to the polls from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday around the county. No Democratic primaries are scheduled.
Normally, Primary Day is in September. But Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered New York state’s counties to start the election process earlier this year, to be closer to the federal process.
General Election Day remains Nov. 5.
In the city of Amsterdam, incumbent Mayor Michael Villa will be in a two-way Independence Party primary with challenger Michael Cinquanti. Also in the city, Villa will be on the Conservative line with the public having an opportunity to write-in a Conservative candidate to face him.
Elsewhere in the city of Amsterdam, a Third Ward Conservative Party primary match up for alderman is set between Irene Collins and the public having an opportunity to write-in a Conservative candidate to face her.
Countywide, voters will decide a Conservative coroner primary between John R. DeStefano and Ariel Santiago.
Two primaries are set for county legislator in District 3. John Thayer’s name will be on the ballot for both Republican and Conservative primaries, although the public has opportunities to write-in opposing candidates for both parties.
Elsewhere in town primary action Tuesday:
∫ Town of Palatine: A two-supervisor’s primary is set between Republicans Bill MacLauchlin and Christopher C. Novak.
∫ Town of Root: Voters will choose between these four Republican council member candidates: Donald Bramer, Eyn C. Fessenden, Peter W. Rebokis, and John VanKersen.
∫ Town of St. Johnsville: A Republican highway superintendent primary is set between William L. Putman and Maynard J. Baker.
