JOHNSTOWN — The Greater Johnstown School District has received more than $200,000 in donations for athletics, Superintendent Patricia Kilburn recently told the Board of Education at Johnstown High School.
“We’re working on some corporate donations, still,” she said.
Kilburn said $202,100 was fundraised so far. The board formally accepted about 45 donations at the meeting, noting Dick’s Sporting Goods would be donating $10,000. [Editor’s note: Dick’s Sporting Goods made its donation of $11,000 earlier this week.]
The superintendent said the goal was still to reach $300,000. If that goal is not met, Kilburn said the Athletic Department still wants all students this coming school year to be able to play. She said the district will still offer all sports programs, but will level out JV, with some students playing down on modified and others playing up on varsity, so as not to eliminate any sport.
“That’s the backup plan,” Kilburn said.
But she said the district is still optimistic it will reach its goal.
