Second shooting arrest made

AMSTERDAM — The second person allegedly involved in a shooting that took place at a Mobil gas station was found and arrested on Wednesday.

Israel Sharpe, 19, of 47 Milton Ave., Apt. 1, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree conspiracy.

Sharpe was held at Amsterdam Police Headquarters for arraignment in Amsterdam City Court, where he was remanded to Montgomery County Correctional facility in lieu of $150,000 cash or $300,000 bail bond.

The first arrest made in relation to the shooting was Daquan T. Folks, 17, who was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment to property.

The two men were allegedly involved in a shooting that occurred at a Mobil gas station on Church Street in Amsterdam, according to a news release.

Amsterdam Police were dispatched at approximately 3:50 p.m. to 165 Church St., on reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, witnesses stated to police that two groups of men had an argument while at the gas station. The argument progressed when one of the men pulled out a handgun and fired no less than 10 rounds at the other group.

According to the release, a vehicle was struck multiple times as well as one of the gas pumps, which was struck once. There were no injuries reported at the scene and there have been no reports of injuries to anyone during the investigation. Responding detectives were able to secure video surveillance from the gas station from which two suspects were identified.

Folks was located at approximately 11 p.m. on Aug. 13. Sharpe was located at approximately 8 p.m. in a basement of a residence on East Main Street on Wednesday.
