Transit service running limited schedule

GLOVERSVILLE — The Gloversville Transit System on Monday resumed limited bus service after suspending normal operations on March 16 amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The Gloversville Transit System announced operations would resume on a limited scale this week in accordance with guidelines from the state Department of Transportation, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The transit system on Monday resumed the operation of the Gloversville route on a modified scheduled with five consecutive runs to be offered on weekdays beginning at 10 a.m. The route starts at City Hall and concludes at DuBois Garden Apartments.

The city route has been modified to provide transportation to essential businesses and destinations as identified to the transit department. Transit is currently intended for essential travel only to such destinations as workplaces, grocery stores and healthcare facilities.

The city is also taking steps to ensure social distancing requirements are observed by limiting the number of passengers on each bus to a total of four with seats that should not be occupied clearly marked off. The city will operate two buses on the route in tandem to allow a total of eight occupants to access the transit system at a time.

If buses reach their maximum occupancy, additional riders will have to wait until space becomes available on a later run. The bus route takes approximately one hour to complete.

“Please bear with us as we do our best to serve you during this time,” the Gloversville Transit System stated in a post announcing the resumption on its Facebook page.

Anyone with a fever, cough or other symptoms of the coronavirus is not to ride public transit at this time.

All drivers and passengers will be required to wear face masks or coverings while on public transit as required under an executive order issued by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

The transit department will also disinfect each vehicle before leaving the transit department each day and interior ventilation settings on each bus have been optimized to circulate air out of the passenger compartment.
