BROADALBIN — The parents of students in the Broadalbin-Perth Central School District are invited to participate in the Parent University’s first event of the 2020-21 school year — a “Self Care” seminar to be held virtually from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday with special guest, Julie Lapham, B-P’s districtwide mental health counselor, according to a news release.

Lapham will lead a discussion about the stresses that many parents are experiencing right now with tips on how to recognize and properly manage stress, while placing a priority on mental, physical and spiritual self-care.”
“Self-care is something we often overlook, but it is a critical piece to the puzzle, especially for someone that is busy and stressed,” Lapham said in the release. “In today’s fast-paced environment, many people struggle to find time for things like exercise, outdoor activities and down time, but the benefits truly are ten-fold.”
The B-P school counselors, Charla Simonson and Jennifer Grimmick oversee Parent University and its programming initiatives. After hearing Lapham give a similar seminar for B-P staff this fall, they knew it was the perfect topic for the first Parent University seminar of the year.
“It’s stressful enough being a parent in a ‘regular’ school year, but the pandemic has definitely added emotional complexities that no family is immune to,” Simonson said. “In these extraordinary times, we want our B-P parents to know that we are here to support them in any way possible.”
