Santa Maria: There is a higher than normal fire risk this week

JOHNSTOWN — Fulton County Emergency Management Director Steven Santa Maria has announced a higher fire risk through the week.

A social media item from the county fire coordinator indicates an “elevated” risk of fire spread this week. The New York state burn ban is still in effect until mid-May.

Santa Maria’s office states: “It’s beautiful outside. People want to clean up their yards and brush. That’s OK, but remember there is no open burning allowed through May 14. There has been several brush and grass fires over the last few days mainly caused by open burning. For the safety of you, your neighbors, and our first responders, and the protection of property, please follow the New York state burn ban rules.”
