‘Tails and Tales’ starts

JOHNSTOWN — The Johnstown Public Library’s Summer Reading Adventure 2021 — “Tails and Tales” — has begun and runs until Aug. 6.

The 38 S Market St. library has in person programs, as well as digital programs available. There will be outdoor, in person children’s programs held throughout the summer.

Summer Reading Adventure 2021 involves registering and tracking your reading at the library or online.

How the program works is child, youth and adult readers can register online. Parents you can create an account first to easily monitor your children’s activity. Participants can log in and track their reading to earn points. The idea is to keep reading, and earn a completion certificate once you’ve completed the program.

Program participants can also obtain the Readsquared app, which is free for both Android and iOS mobile devices.

The Summer Reading Adventure is broken into four age levels: The pre-K 2021 Tails & Tales program is designed for kids up to four. The children’s 2021 Tails & Tales is designed for kids age five to 12. The teen 2021 Tails & Tales is designed for teens age 13 to 17. The Adult 2021 Tails & Tales program is designed for adults age 18 and older.

All four age groups are encouraged to develop lifelong reading habits. Once you’ve earned enough points, participants receive a completion certificate you can print and share.

Gary VanSlyke will have a short musical performance each Thursday at 10:30 a.m. on the library Facebook page.
