Fulton County Sheriff: Perth, Gloversville women face welfare fraud counts

JOHNSTOWN – Two Fulton County women are facing welfare fraud charges, accused of failing to report income while receiving benefits, Fulton County Sheriff’s officials said.

Amanda Williams, 32, of Summer Street, Gloversville was arrested Monday and charged with one count each of fourth-degree welfare fraud and fourth-degree grand larceny, along with two counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, felonies.

Williams is accused of failing to report to the Department of Social Services that she was receiving unemployment benefits and also employed and earning wages at different points over the past year, officials said.

By failing to report her income, she defrauded the state out of more than $2,400 she wasn’t entitled to, officials said.

Williams was processed and released to appear in court later.

In the other case, Lynne Zarecki, 65, of County Highway 107, Perth, was arrested Monday on one count each of fourth-degree welfare fraud, fourth-degree grand larceny and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, felonies, officials said.

Zarecki is accused of failing to report that she was working and her income. By doing so, she then defrauded the state out of more than $1,800 she wasn’t entitled to, officials said.

Zarecki was processed and released to appear in court later.
