BROADALBIN — The Broadalbin-Perth Patriots got their season off to a strong start, defeating Scotia-Glenville 53-22 in Foothills Council girls’ basketball action Thursday night at Robert C Munn Gymnasium at Broadalbin-Perth High School.

The Tartans took an early lead before Broadalbin-Perth engineered a 27-3 run over a 6:45 minute span through the first and second quarters to take control and cruise to the victory.

“I was very happy with the energy that we came out with,” Broadalbin-Perth coach Dave Bush said. “They were doing what we have been doing in practice and that was moving the ball. They were being patient, letting the plays follow through and we got open shots, especially in the first half and we were knocking them down.”

Freshman Molly Russom led the Patriots scoring with 12 points and six rebounds, while Jillian Sassanella hit for nine points and Brooke Bush hit a pair of 3-pointers in her eight-point effort

Broadalbin-Perth received scoring from eight of the 10 players suited up for Thursday’s game.

“That’s what I want,” coach Bush said. “The scoring was spread out and that is what we need. The girls are taking the shots and that’s the effort we are going to need.”

The Tartans squad, featuring two seniors, six sophomores and three freshmen, was led by Karaline McCarthy with 11 points, while Keeley Kristel had nine and Tori Nardini finished with two.

Broadalbin-Perth (1-0, 1-0) will take to the road for their next game against Foothills Council contender Schuylerville on Monday. Scotia-Glenville (0-1, 0-1) will host Amsterdam Monday.

“Schuylerville is a tough gym to play in,” coach Bush said. “They are going to be tough but we will try to come up with a game plan.”
