STRATFORD – State forest rangers and a retired ranger helped rescue a runaway girl in the woods of Stratford late last week, the state Department of Environmental Conservation said.
The girl was ultimately found cold, but otherwise unhurt after the approximately 80-minute search, the DEC said.
The incident began Friday afternoon, just after 3 p.m., officials said. Dispatchers received a call at about 3:21 p.m. from a mother reporting that her 13-year-old daughter was suspected of running away into the woods, officials said.

Three rangers responded to the scene and the mother also called a retired ranger. The retired ranger directed her to call for ranger assistance and also began searching the woods, officials said.
The retired ranger, identified only as Retired Ranger Ploss, soon found the girl at about 4:40 p.m., about 79 minutes after the initial call came in.
Ploss and one of the rangers, identified as Lt. Kerr, gave the girl extra socks and a coat, warmed her up and walked her out of the woods, officials said.
The rangers then left by 5:07 p.m., officials said.
