Troopers: Knife-point burglary charged in Dolgeville break-in; Victims got own knife, held suspect for police


DOLGEVILLE – A man broke into a Dolgeville home and menaced the residents with a knife, before the residents got their own knife and were able to subdue the man for police, state police said.

Troopers responded and arrested the suspect, identified as John H. Austin, Jr., 54, of Little Falls. He now faces one count of first-degree burglary, state police said.

The incident happened just after 1 a.m. Sunday at the village of Dolgeville residence, state police said.

Austin is accused of kicking in the residence’s door and entering a bedroom where he then menaced a man there with a knife. The victim was able to grab his own knife and, aided by another occupant, was able to subdue Austin and hold him until police arrived.

Austin was known to the residents of the home, state police said.

Austin was processed and ordered held on $10,000 bail. He is due back in court later.
