High schools: Canajoharie baseball beats Johnstown, Gloversville

Tommy Weingart and Richie Tamsett drove in four runs apiece, with Tamsett clubbing a home run, in Canajoharie’s 14-3 non-league baseball win over Johnstown on Saturday. 

Kyler Peet and Cody Hyney added doubles for Canajoharie. Zach Tallon singled, tripled and drove in two runs for Johnstown.

Canajoharie followed that up with a 9-5 win over Gloversville. Jack Montanye singled, doubled and scored two runs for Canajoharie, and Zack Suits knocked in a pair of runs. Dane Dillenback doubled and drove in two runs for Gloversville.

Johnstown also fell 12-5 to Unatego, with the Sir Bills being led in defeat by two doubles and two RBIs from Jared Steward.

In Gloversville’s 10-5 loss to Unatego, Dillenback had a double and a single, and Alex Payne drove in two runs.

Broadalbin-Perth scored five runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to rally for a 15-8 win over Coxsackie-Athens. Mike Magliocca doubled, drove in three runs and scored three times to lead the Patriots. Luke Tambasco and DJ Wallace each had two hits and two RBIs. Colin Cotter had a home run, single and three RBis.

Eric Zelezniak had two doubles and two singles to power Galway to a 13-0 win over Mayfield in a Western Athletic Conference game. Ryan Pudney added a double and two singles for the Golden Eagles.

Bella Bermas threw a three-hitter to lead Johnstown to a 6-0 Foothills Council softball win over Broadalbin-Perth. Mollie Kortz had two singles and two runs. Izzy Ropeter and Bermas each added two singles and a run.

Queensbury defeated Mayfield 13-2 in a non-league game. Emma Sponzo produced two home runs, three runs scored and three RBIs, while teammate Cassidy Ray had three hits, scored three runs and drove in one run. Heather Ginter led Mayfield with two hits and one run scored.

At the Anthony Luciano Memorial Invitational track and field meet, Broadalbin-Perth got individual wins from Sophia Tyler in the girls’ pole vault (8-6) and Dylan Tyler in the boys’ 110 hurdles (16.56 seconds).

Gloversville’s Zoie Tesi won the girls’ high jump (5-3) at the Cohoes relay, which also saw Fonda-Fultonville get wins from Carter Petersen in the boys’ 110 hurdles (15.38) and Alessandro Saltsman in the discus (181-6).

At the Maple Hill Invitational, Fort Plain/OESJ’s Clayton Welch won the boys’ 400 meters (52.16).
