High schools: Robare shines in Gloversville’s baseball win over Broadalbin-Perth

Kyle Robare struck out six batters and allowed only one earned run in seven innings to lead Gloversville to a 3-1 Foothills Council baseball win Monday against Broadalbin-Perth.

Ryan Savioe struck out five batters in six innings for Broadalbin-Perth, which received two hits and a run scored from Luke Tambasco, and a hit and an RBI from Colin Coller.

For Gloversville’s offense, Caelan Porter contributed two hits, Alex Payne had a hit, RBI and run scored, and Dane Dillenback had a hit and scored a run. 

The game was scoreless through three innings, then Gloversville scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth before Broadalbin-Perth scored its run in the sixth.

Queensbury starting pitcher Adrian Caron gave up a lead-off single to Joe LaPan, then proceeded to retire the next 21 batters, including 18 by strikeout, in a 7-0 win over Hudson Falls in Foothills Council action. Sean Seeley went 1 for 3 with two RBIs for the Spartans.

Zenmatsu Myles struck out 10 batters and allowed no earned runs in Fonda-Fultonville’s 13-2 Western Athletic Conference win against Fort Plain. In the five-inning games, Tyler Daus hit a home run and had two RBIs, Jackson Croucher tripled, singled and had three RBIs, and Giovanni DiCaprio doubled as part of a four-hit effort that included three runs scored and two RBIs. Also in the win, Joey Susi had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. For Fort Plain, Paul Grassel had a double and two RBIs. Fort Plain led 2-1 through the top of the third inning, then Fonda-Fultonville scored three runs in the bottom of the third, six in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Canajoharie defeated Northville 12-2 in five innings. Aiden Bowerman struck out seven batters in five innings on the mound to claim the win, while Tommy Weingart added two doubles and two runs scored, Riley Montanye produced two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, Jack Montanye had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, LaAnthony Fairley had two hits and two runs scored. Canajoharie scored in each of its offensive frames, including seven runs in the second inning.

Galway starting pitcher Myles Pleasants struck out 11 in six innings, giving up two hits in a 7-2 win over Duanesburg. Ryan Pudney led Galway, going 2 for 3 with a home run. Shane Wetherington went 1 for 3 with a two-run home run.

Luke Helmstady struck out 11 batters in seven innings to lead Schoharie to a 4-3 win against OESJ. John Polley and Lawrence Zeufle each had a double and a single in the victory. For OESJ, Mason Snell struck out 15 batters in seven innings, and hit a home run.


Canajoharie won 9-5 against Schoharie in Western Athletic Conference softball action. Kirsten Hyney struck out 10 batters and allowed three earned runs in the win, while adding three hits and five RBIs. Hyney had two triples, while teammates Jazmin Humphrey and Caitlyn Baker each had two hits. For Schoharie, Maddy Bland had two hits, and Kimmie Olsen struck out seven batters in six innings. Kimmie Olsen pitched six innings striking out seven for Schoharie. Maddie Bland went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Schoharie.

Galway had 15 hits in a 10-4 win over Duanesburg. Amber Kolpakas went 3 for 5 with a run scored and four RBI for the Eagles. In the circle, Kolpakas allowed four runs, two of them earned and struck out 13.


Morgan Nichter produced nine goals and two assists in Scotia-Glenville’s 16-3 Foothills Council win against Johnstown. Tia Jack contributed three goals, while Karaline McCarthy and Lucy Crounse each had two goals and two assists. For Johnstown, Jena Barker, Roslyn Chapin and Nicole Simon each had a goal.
