A Fulton County Jail inmate was hospitalized Wednesday for a drug overdose.

The inmate, who was not identified, was recently arrested and was waiting in the pre-classification area of the jail when he overdosed, according to Sheriff Richard Giardino. The man was taken to the hospital and revived with Narcan, Giardino said.

“It’s still under investigation,” the sheriff said.

Giardino said they need to determine whether the inmate already had drugs in his system, was given some by others also in the same area or received them during visitation. However, visitation seems unlikely, Giardino said, because those in pre-classification don’t receive visitors.
