Royal Mountain hosts third CNYMRA event of the season

CAROGA LAKE The busy start to the season continued Sunday as Royal Mountain Ski Area hosted its fifth event.

Royal hosted its third Central New York Motocross Riders Association Region 3 event of the season. There were a total of 280 entries Sunday.

Gloversville’s Sal Attigliato Jr. won the 51cc pee wee senior 7-and-8-year-old and 51cc 4-to-8-year-old open classes.

Johnstown’s Michael Ward won the plus 50 class. He also placed second in the plus-45 expert class.

Johnstown’s Ian Cary won the quad amateur class, while St. Johnsville’s Blaire Wilson won the mini quad 51-90cc class.

In addition to Attigliato, seven other riders picked up wins in multiple classes Sunday.

Catskill’s Tyler Loud claimed victories in the plus-25 expert, 122-250 expert and 122-open expert classes.

Ilion’s Joey Metott won the senior mini 79-85cc 12-to15-year-old and open mini classes.

Ilion’s Grant Gasstrom won the plus-40 and plus-45 expert classes, Poland’s Kaden Ozog won the collegeboy and 122-250 amateur classes, Richfield Springs’ Ted Vanbrink won the quad expert and plus-25 quad classes and Malone’s Alex Willett Jr. (schoolboy/girl, 122-open novice), Eric Bearor of East Dorset, Vt., won the plus-25 amateur and plus-30 amateur classes.

In the quad classes, Newport’s Gavin Maine (quad novice), Corinth’s Easton Morris (mini quad 50cc), Stone Ridge’s Syler Padusnak (quad schoolboy/girl) and Wallkill’s Robert Gillespie (plus-40 quad) all posted victories.

Other winners included Corinth’s Colton Tubbs (51cc pee wee junior 4-6), Bainbridge’s Zane Mumbulo (junior mini two-stroke 59-85cc/9-11), Newark Valley’s Matt Rockwell (plus-40 amateur), Middletown’s Brian Wright (plus-45 amateur) and Ravena’s Jack Barry (122-250 novice), Sawyer Lane of Arlington, Vt. (65cc two-stroke 7-11), Kyle Hatch of New Milford, Conn. (plus-30 expert), Raegan Brown of Hampstead, N.H. (women 85-250cc) and Matt Hanisch of Wilton, N.H. (122-125 two-stroke).

Several area riders posted top-five finishes in their respective classes.

In the 51cc pee wee junior 4-to-6-year-old class, Amsterdam’s Maverick Manzer was fourth and St. Johnsville’s Burton Wilson was fifth.

Johnstown’s Kip Simonds was fourth in the junior mini two-stroke 59-85cc 9-to-11-year-old class.

In the plus-25 amateur class, Broadalbin’s Ryan Rose was second and Wells’ Ken Chicoski was third. Rose also was third in the plus-30 amateur class.

Gloversville’s Salvatore Attigliato was third in the plus-35 expert class.

In the plus-40 amateur class, Johnstown’s Tom Hogan was second and Fultonville’s Matthew Cary was fourth. Hogan also was fifth in the plus-45 amateur class.

Fultonville’s Kendra Cary was fourth in the quad schoolboy/girl class.

Broadalbin’s Owen Marek was fifth in the 122-250 novice class, while Johnstown’s J.T. Vietri was fifth in the 122-250 amateur class. Vietri also was fifth in the 122-open amateur class.

In the mini quad 51-90cc class, St. Johnsville’s Kaci Bare was second and Fultonville’s Ava Cary was fourth.

Royal Mountain will be back in action Wednesday when it hosts its weekly Wednesday night supercross event.
