More than 700 entries for two-day motocross event at Royal Mountain

CAROGA LAKE — It was another busy weekend of racing at Royal Mountain Ski Area.

Royal Mountain hosted a two-day Central New York Motocross Riders Association District 3 event on Saturday and Sunday.

There were 326 entries on Saturday and 377 on Sunday.

Sunday

Three area riders were among the winners during Sunday’s competition at Royal Mountain.

Mayfield’s Brandon Tyler, Fort Plain’s Spencer Mang and Johnstown’s Ian Cary all posted victories Sunday.

Tyler swept both motos to win the pit bike class, while Cary swept both motos to win the quad amateur class.

Mang won the 122-250 expert class. He also was third in the collegeboy class and third in the 122-open expert class.

Four riders claimed wins in multiple classes on Sunday.

Malone’s Alex Willett Jr. won the schoolboy/girl, 122-open novice and 122-250 novice classes.

Ghent’s Sebastian Witherell won all four of his motos to win the 51cc pee wee senior 7-and-8-year-old class and the 51cc open 4-to-8-year-old class.

Petersburg’s Scott Phelps swept all four of his motos to win the plus-45 expert and plus 50 classes, and Ravena’s Daniel Barry won the 122-125 two-stroke and 122-250 amateur classes.

In the quad classes, Granville’s Kolton Towne (quad novice), Holland Patent’s Seth Reese (quad expert), Edmeston’s Breona Talbot (mini quad 50cc), Savanah Symonds (mini quad 51-90cc), Wallkill’s Colten Gillespie (quad schoolboy/girl) and Robert Gillespie (plus-40 quad) notched victories.

Other winners included Corinth’s Colton Tubbs (51cc pee wee junior 4-6), Camden’s Noah Gokey (65cc two-stroke 7-11), Cropseyville’s Xzavier Halse (junior mini two-stroke 59-85cc/9-11), Croghan’s Winston Widrick (senior mini 79-85cc/12-15), Ilion’s Joey Metott (open mini 79-112cc), Gansevoort’s Nicholas Niles (collegeboy 17-24), Catskill’s Tyler Loud (plus-25 expert), New Berlin’s Charles Gelatt (plus-30 amateur), Whitesboro’s Mitchell Dougherty (plus-30 expert), Troy’s Joe Falzo (Plus-40 amateur), Waterville’s William Staelens (plus-40 expert), Malone’s Cory Bogett (plus-45 amateur), Morrisonville’s Matt Rugar (122-open amateur), Bailey Sheldon of Pawlet, Vt. Several area riders posted top-five finishes in their respective classes.

Gloversville’s Sal Attigliato Jr. was second in the 51cc open 4-to-8-year-old class and was fifth in the 51cc pee wee senior 7-and-8-year-old class.

In the mini quad 51-90cc class, St. Johnsville’s Blaire Wilson was second, Fultonville’s Ava Cary was third and Mayfield’s Chloe Van Nostrand was fourth.

Wells’ Ken Chicoski Jr. was third in the plus-25 amateur class, St. Johnsville’s Burton Wilson was fourth in the 51cc pee wee junior 4-to-6-year-old class, and Johnstown’s Brandon Handy was third in the 122-250 expert class.

In the plus-30 amateur class, Broadalbin’s Ryan Rose was second and Fultonville’s Adam Dutcher was third.

Fultonville’s Matthew Cary was second in the plus-40 amateur class, while Johnstown’s Michael Cary was fifth.

Saturday

Three area riders picked up wins during the opening day of the two-day event on Saturday.

Fultonville’s Adam Dutcher, Fort Plain’s Spencer Mang and Johnstown’s Ian Cary were among the winners during Saturday’s action.

Mang swept all four of his motos to win the 122-250cc expert and 122-open expert classes

Dutcher was second in the first moto and first in the second moto to win the plus-30 amateur class. Dutcher also was third in the plus-25 amateur class.

Cary won both of his motos to pick up the win in the quad amateur class.

In addition to Mang, four other riders claimed wins in multiple classes on Saturday.

Ghent’s Sebastian Witherell won all four of his motos to win the 51cc pee wee senior 7-and-8-year-old class and the 51cc open 4-to-8-year-old class.

Ravena’s Daniel Barry won the collegeboy 17-to-24-year-old and 122-125cc two-stroke classes.

Tug Greenslet of Bennington,Vt., won the 122-open amateur and 122-250cc amateur classes.

Canajoharie’s C.J. Renzi was second in the 122-250cc novice class, while Fort Plain’s Cooper Reynolds was fifth. Renzi also was second in the 122-open novice class.

Broadalbin’s Ryan Rose was fifth in the plus-25 amateur class and fifth in the plus-30 amateur class.

Royal Mountain will be back in action Wednesday when it is scheduled to host its weekly supercross event.
