GLOVERSVILLE – The 2022 Bacon & Brew Fest set for Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the city’s Farmers Market Pavilion will feature more hours, more vendors, more beer and longer music sets than last year’s edition of the event.
“This is the second year that the Recreation Commission has organized this event, so the main difference from last year is that we’ve extended the time,” City Clerk Jeni Mazur said. “Last year it ran from 4 to 8 p.m., and this year it will go until 9 p.m. It was very successful last year, and by the end of the event it didn’t feel over, so we decided to extend it another hour.”
Mazur, who serves as the city’s liaison to the Recreation Commission, said the 2022 Bacon & Brew Fest will feature 49 different vendors that have signed up to attend, up from 27 last year. Some of the vendors will feature bacon themed specials in keeping with the theme of the event.
“This is our only event that has a biergarten, where you can actually buy beer, by the glass, inside of the biergarten,” Mazur said.
The Bacon & Brew Fest biergarten will overlook the musical stage and feature both beer and hard cider from these three vendors:
• Stump City Brewing
• Nine Pin Cider Works
• Mean Max Brew Works
“You have to purchase a wristband to get into (the biergarten), so it’s a $5 fee that goes to the recreation commission, that helps offset the expenses of the event, and to enter the biergarten you have to 21 or older,” Mazur said.
The Recreation Commission will also be offering a full dinner menu for sale at its concession stand, via a permit from the New York state Dept. of Health and cooked by commission chairman Jeremy Krajewski.
“This event is kind of less labor intensive for the day of — we basically just have the concession stand that we have run and the biergarten entrance — so that allows us at this event to have more staffing at the concession stand,” Mazur said. “This allows us to do something bigger than we would normally do, which is typically just snacks, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cone, so instead this will be a full menu.”
These are the musical acts set to perform at Bacon & Brew Fest and their set times:
- Rough-N-Real – 4 to 5:30 p.m.
- The Insolent Willies – 5:45 to 7:15 p.m.
- Craic Agus Ceol – 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Mazur said last year Bacon & Brew Fest raised about $1,600 for the city Recreation Commission, but she expects to exceed that figure this year.
“I anticipate that we will do more this year – just because of the way that we’ve been trending so far with our events – they’ve been way more successful than in past years, plus with the added hour added on,” she said.
So far this year the Recreation Commission has raised $15,000 from its previous two major events the 7th Annual Southern Adirondack Wine and Food Festival and Railfest. That’s almost double the amount raised by the commission for all of 2021 when it raised a total of about $8,000.
The next scheduled Gloversville Recreation Commission event will be Fall Fest set for Oct. 8.
“That’s kind of our community give-back event, so pretty much everything at that event is free as a thank you to everyone who’s supported us all year,” she said.
